Dream and Dare to change, because nothing is impossible. Yes! we can do anything what we desire, if we really want it, and we work hard to realise it, then we can get it!
But really if you have a goal, then you can make it happen! And why is this all relevant to my article about a Power Station? This is really simple to answer because before we all at electricity delivered to our doorsteps. There was nothing to deliver. Somebody had a dream, others shared that dream, they dared to do something about it and they managed to realise this dream. I guess I am every day very thankfull that somebody realised his dream!
Power Stations started to appear in our city's and ofcourse also in Sydney. Today I visited White Bay Power Station at Rozelle (inner west of Sydney.) This power station was the longest serving of all five metropolitan power stations in Sydney. The construction began in 1913, and went through a number of expansions before the station was de-commissioned in 1983.
In total there where five metropolitan power stations and they were located at:
- Bunnerong
- White Bay
- Balmain
- Pyrmont
- Ultimo
Most of the five Power stations were demolished except for Pyrmonth.
The Pyrmonth power station is nowadays known as The Powerhouse Museum.
So of the five stations, three were demolished and one became a museum.
And what will become of White Bay power station?
- demolish it?
- make it a shoppingcentre?
- just make new residential area?
- respect the historical value of the building and combine old with new,
so give it a destination like The Powerhouse Museum.
The White Bay Power Station has a significant industrial heritage.
The pictures I took today are in a randomly order and show you the White Bay Power Station as it is today May 2011. For one it is just a pile of old rocks for others it is a doorway to the past and for some it is even a look into the future.
When it can't be done, do it! If you don't do it, it simply doesnt excist!
